In Defense Of Redcoats

No, I’m not defending King George’s attempt to crush the revolution in the American colonies, but the seemingly stupid idea to outfit the British army in bright red coats, thus making them extremely conspicuous to their less-than-primary-colored enemies. If you think that dressing your army in identical, unique colors is stupid, think how stupid it would seem when you realized that you were shooting at your own troops because they were dressed in vaguely similar colors to the enemy. Who’s the stupid one now, hm? Having said that, bright red is never a smart color to wear on the battlefield. You couldn’t tell if someone was bleeding or not. I guess there’s no excuse for that, really.
